INTP Average IQ
Cognitive Strengths
Analysis
INTPs consistently appear at or near the top of IQ studies linked to personality type. Their dominant cognitive function — introverted Thinking (Ti) — drives them to build precise internal logical frameworks, which aligns closely with the kinds of abstract reasoning tasks measured by traditional IQ tests.
The combination of Ti and auxiliary extraverted Intuition (Ne) gives INTPs a natural talent for pattern recognition and novel problem-solving. They tend to approach problems by first decomposing them into fundamental components and then recombining those components in unexpected ways, a skill that translates directly to high performance on matrix reasoning and spatial puzzles.
It is important to note that while the statistical average is higher for INTPs, IQ varies enormously within the type. Many INTPs score average or below average, and many individuals of other types score far higher than the INTP average. Personality type influences cognitive style, not cognitive ceiling.
