Analysis
INFJs possess one of the deepest forms of emotional intelligence among all personality types. Their dominant introverted Intuition (Ni) works in concert with auxiliary extraverted Feeling (Fe) to create a unique capacity for profound empathy -- they don't just sense what someone is feeling right now, but intuitively grasp the underlying emotional patterns, unresolved wounds, and unspoken needs that drive that person's behavior.
This Ni-Fe combination gives INFJs an almost uncanny ability to understand people at a level that often startles those around them. They frequently know what someone needs emotionally before that person has articulated it themselves. Their empathy scores rival those of ENFJs, but their introversion means they express this empathy more selectively and in more intimate settings. They are the type most likely to offer the single perfect sentence that makes someone feel truly seen.
INFJs' EQ challenge lies primarily in self-regulation and boundaries. Their deep empathy can become absorptive -- they take on others' pain as their own, leading to emotional exhaustion and the famous "INFJ door slam" when they become overwhelmed. Building robust self-awareness about their own emotional limits, learning to empathize without absorbing, and developing healthy boundaries are the critical growth areas. When INFJs master self-regulation, their emotional intelligence becomes truly extraordinary.
